first responders
The impact your experience as a First Responder can have on the every area of your life cannot be understated. Your personal and professional relationships, mood, sleep, perspective, and so much else has the possibility to be impacted by your career. You see some of the darkest parts of humanity, and then you come home and are expected to show up like you just left an average Tuesday at the office.
I approach therapy with First Responders from a strengths-based perspective, leaning heavily on the concepts of resiliency and Post-Traumatic growth (or PTG for short). PTG describes the outcome of transforming difficult or traumatic experiences into personal strengths. It’s a nuanced concept because it’s not the same as finding the “silver lining” in a situation. Rather, after a traumatic event occurs, it involves developing a greater appreciation for life, deepening relationships, recognition of personal strengths, spiritual insight, and exploration of new possibilities.
In order to help you work towards your own PTG, I integrate a variety of treatment modalities, including evidenced-based trauma treatment interventions such as EMDR (see below for more info on EMDR), and biofeedback.
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing therapy is a multi-step heavy-duty method of getting “unstuck” from patterns and unhelpful cycles in your life by desensitizing trauma memories using eye movement (or other types of bilateral stimulation). It’s a powerful and effective tool to neutralize the lasting impact of both single and multi-incident traumas. It’s one of the key interventions I use to help you develop your own experience of Post Traumatic Growth.
And here’s something cool: EMDR doesn’t just work as a trauma treatment, there’s a growing body of research showing its efficacy for treating generalized anxiety, depression, OCD, phobias, performance-related issues, and even chronic pain.
As an EMDRIA certified therapist and EMDRIA Consultant in Training I provide services for both youth and adults. I have additional EMDR training in treating youth and adults with dissociative experiences and complex PTSD. I also offer EMDR intensives for those seeking accelerated treatment options.

Adolescents (ages 11-18)
“I’m not a regular therapist. I’m a cool therapist.” (bonus points if you get that reference) Ok, I may not be that cool, but I will talk straight with you and I will be kind. I know that sitting across from someone and staring into their eyeballs for 45 minutes can be a wee bit uncomfortable, so in my office you’ll find options to craft, draw, paint, fidget, pet animals, rummage through the office snack bucket, and even swing in an egg chair while we talk.
I’ll also probably ask you how TikTok works a few (thousand) times, but I do really want to see the VHS tape you’re showing me.
Children (ages 3-10+)
Why play therapy? Adults use words to communicate, kids use toys. Instead of having your 3-year-old fill out a sheet about their “cognitive distortions,” we’re going to play. It allows for a child to explore and gain mastery of their experiences in a safely contained and non-judgmental space, using the the language of play to gain mastery over their difficult experiences. Though it varies for every child, I generally approach therapy with children as a collaboration between myself, the child, and caregivers. I believe in bringing caregivers along as “co-therapists,” so that you can develop confidence in the ability to facilitate healing for your child. Play therapy is the evidenced based, gold-star standard of child therapy. Let’s play.

Does this even need an explanation??
It’s therapy. With a dog and a bunny. Animals are good for our souls. Science agrees.
